Insurance and Finance

Insurance
All the big outdoors organisations (Ramblers, British Mountaineering Association, Youth Hostels Association) stipulate that a group, these days, HAS GOT TO HAVE insurance to provide legal fees to give legal protection to organisers and leaders, in case something goes wrong on a walk.

We operate under the standard YHA Groups insurance scheme.

This does not cover for anything else, but it would be unfair to ask people to lead walks for the group without making sure they are legally covered in the event of an accident.

Finance
This is what we have to pay annually:

£25.50 single fee to YHS Groups for our affiliation, plus
£1.30 insurance fee per attending member (this is why we need attendee sheets from walk leaders so we know who's turning up on the walks and can check they're all members - so everyone, please co-operate on this, it's really important)

We're aiming, at the moment, to get some of this money back by voluntary donations from members, but will probably have a standard annual fee of about £2 when the club has grown to a sustainable size, although this will be open to discussion before it is put in place, and if you have already joined before then, you have a full year's membership before needing to pay anything.

Web-hosting is free, on the Ilkley Community Pages (saves us about £15 per month) providing it's a community service, which we feel it is.
